Jute Bags
Jute is a naturally grown plant traditionally grown in the
Calcutta region of
India. This is an old tradition that stretches back many decades and a large proportion of the local community is involved in farming, working in the mills processing the jute and the many factories around the area that produce jute products for both domestic and export. Jute sacks are used heavily in the tea and coffee industries, also used for the backing of carpets and more recently a popular choice of re-usable and environmentally friendly bags in the
UK market.
The jute plant grows to 5-6 ft in height and is harvested
from the fields. The plants, similar in look to sugar cane, are then left to dry out completely in the sun. Once this has completed the dried plant is transported to the mills for weaving and processing into the jute material that we see so often today being carried around the high street.
Jute material for bags:
Two qualities are available, both being measured by stitch count per square centimetre, the traditional quality for bag making is the 14 x 15 stitch count. This gives a robust material for carrying of heavyweights and allows a superior surface for us to print.
We stock 4 sizes of bag to cater for many requirements. Our bags are a high quality ‘golden coloured’ material, this colour comes from a small section of the plant. We laminate the bags for added strength and also ensuring the bag being waterproof,, then spray the material with a natural starch to give stiffness to the bag.
We ensure our factory produces bags that are of a higher quality firstly by making them symmetrical in shape with perfect 90 degree corners and strong even stitching.
Handles:
We can offer a choice of the following handles for bespoke factory order bags:
Soft loop handles with a choice of loop diameter, the wider the diameter the more comfortable to hold.
Natural jute material in a variety of chosen widths.
Flat cotton tape handles in any chosen length. Shoulder length handles are particularly popular for promotional use as they leave both hands free.
Natural cotton rope in a variety of chosen diameters.
NB. All the handles can be dyed to match the bag colour or a colour of your choice.
We offer 4 sizes from stock, please call or e mail us for a price list.
Printing:
Jute material does not lend itself to complicated full colour printing or intricate designs where high definition is required. It is a material with a relatively bumpy surface with many holes. For best results we recommend solid lettering or designs that have simple logo’s. If you are unsure please send us a copy of the proposed design and we can advise accordingly.
We use only water based inks for printing on jute. These are made from natural sustainable materials that do not harm the environment.
Plastisol inks are used in some instances to ensure a customers design can be reproduced more effectively. This ink is only used with the express permission of the customer
